Helping new teachers and staff adopt the core values of the Florida Virtual School is the job of Training and Development Director, Felicia Ryerson.
In 1998, Ms. Ryerson had completed 11 years as a classroom teacher. From the beginning of her career, teaching had been her main ambition and passion. Today, Ms. Ryerson is still teaching. Although her current job responsibilities have taken her out of the classroom, her passion to teach others is still the same.
As the Director of Training and Development, Ms. Ryerson teaches new teachers how to be effective in the online environment. She is passionate about the Florida Virtual School 's student-centered approach to instruction. She is also passionate about working with a team of professionals who seek to answer the needs of individual students.
Ms. Ryerson's other responsibilities include orienting all new instructional and non-instructional staff to the values that underlie the Florida Virtual School . These values recognize students and their parents as important customers with a right to the highest in customer service. For Ms. Ryerson, technology is a servant that makes her school's delivery of instruction personal, responsive and student-centered.
During her career as a classroom teacher, Ms. Ryerson was distinguished as her school's Teacher of the Year and as an Exxon Math Specialist responsible for innovating Math instruction in her district. Ms. Ryerson earned her B.A. in Elementary Education for the University of Central Florida .
