Nobody understands better than Evonne Gustin that computers can help people in performing the important tasks of their lives. She also understands the need for dedicated teachers to guide people in obtaining the full benefits of the computer.
Ms. Gustin has taught all kinds of people from high school students to adult learners. She has taught computer applications to people with disabilities, and offered staff training in computers to school district personnel. And, as a student completing her Master’s degree, she has also directly experienced the benefits of online learning. In all cases, she has understood the importance of complementing effective pedagogy with appropriate technology.
Ms. Gustin’s own pedagogy is grounded in an understanding that learning should be satisfying, outcome-oriented, and fun. She believes that the Florida Virtual School model of online instruction gives students the freedom obtain a deeper understanding of the subject matter through investigation, practice, and experimentation. She also believes that one-on-one assistance from a caring teacher is a vital ingredient in effective student-centered learning.
Ms. Gustin taught web design and computer applications at Fountain-Fort Carson High School in Colorado. She also served as a technology specialist for the Fountain-Fort Carson School District. At Blair College in Colorado, she taught computer applications, database management and systems analysis. After moving to West Palm Beach Florida, she served as a systems analyst and staff trainer for the West Palm Beach school district. She also served as training specialist with Gulfstream Goodwill Industries. Today, in addition to teaching at FLVS, Ms. Gustin serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Northwood University campus in West Palm Beach.
Ms. Gustin earned her Master of Science degree in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University. Her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management was awarded by Palm Beach Atlantic University.
