Donna Harris says she likes to see plans come together.  Some of those plans involve her students as they acquire real-world technology skills for success in school and in a career.  Another kind of plan involves Mrs. Harris’ own career of teaching technology with technology.

For Mrs. Harris, being technologically literate is essential for survival in today’s world.  Equally important are the skills of problem solving, creative thinking, and flexibility that enable students to maximize their use of technology.

For the past six years, Mrs. Harris has used technology to enhance instruction at Lake Butler Middle School in Union County, Florida.  As a Discovery Educator, she offers workshops on effective methods for incorporating UnitedStreaming video materials into the curriculum of fellow teachers.  She publishes her school’s newspaper, maintains her school’s website, and produces the morning newscast through television and radio.  She is also the faculty advisor for the Technology Student Association.  Prior to teaching at Lake Butter, Mrs. Harris worked in the Information Technology Department for the Florida Department of Corrections.

Having earned her masters degree as an online student, Mrs. Harris is especially pleased to join the Florida Virtual School faculty.  She believes that online technology allows teachers additional opportunities for providing one-on-one instruction that is individualized to each student’s needs.

Mrs. Harris earned her Master of Arts degree in Curriculum Development with a concentration in Educational Technology from Florida Gulf Coast University.  Her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration was awarded by the University of North Florida. She is married to her husband David, and has two children, Ashley and Lake.
