For D’Athlone Brown, the ability to communicate is an essential ingredient for every person’s success. As a teacher of English, Ms. Brown has chosen to ensure that all her students have this essential skill.
Ms. Brown views teaching as a comprehensive effort to “counsel, guide, and instruct students.” Her goal is to enable them to “live their best lives to the best of their abilities.” Her approach is to relate to the needs of all her students, regardless of their backgrounds.
Prior to joining the Florida Virtual School faculty, Ms. Brown taught language arts at Liberty Middle School in Tampa, Florida. During her tenure there she received the Ida B. Baker Award and several TOP performance awards. However, she is most proud of the successes of her students, who were number one on the reading portion of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. As a whole, her students achieved the highest adequate yearly progress in the entire school.
Today, Ms. Brown is pleased to teach in an online environment that allows her to reach a wider range of students than might otherwise be possible in a traditional classroom setting. She also enjoys the opportunity to communicate with each student, personally addressing his or her individual needs.
Ms. Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The University of South Florida.
