The technology of communications never stops advancing. From carvings on stone tablets, to the printing press, to electronic messages sent around the world, there are always new ways to share information. Sharing information in new ways also describes the multifaceted career of Christopher King.
Mr. King began his educational career in the Media and Audiovisual Services department of Miami-Dade Community College, first as a technician supervisor and then as operations chief. He saw film become video, slide shows become PowerPoint presentations, and distance education become Internet-based. At the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at University of Florida, he served as the coordinator of distance learning, providing instruction via video to several remote sites. In his next position, Mr. King’s technical focus changed to instructional design as an e-learning designer for St. Petersburg College’s, National Terrorism Preparedness Institute. Prior to joining Florida Virtual School, Mr. King worked as the adaptive technology specialist at Santa Fe Community College enhancing educational media accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Now at FLVS, Mr. King’s talents are focused on the job of coordinating the development and redevelopment of courseware. He also addresses the need for FLVS courses to be appropriately accessible for students with disabilities. In addition, he is responsible for creating a centralized system for storing and accessing materials useful in multiple courses.
Mr. King’s believes FLVS to be a school that is on the cutting edge of online learning. He is pleased to use his knowledge of 3D virtual reality to explore ways for creating greater interactive reality in FLVS courses. As the technology of communication continues to advance, Mr. King intends to remain on the cutting edge himself.
Mr. King earned his Master of Science degree in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University. His Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication was awarded by Syracuse University. Mr. King’s lives in Gainesville with his wife Carmen, who is a special ed teacher, and with his two sons, Benjamin and Jacob.
