Christine
Samaan says she became a teacher not to help students get a
letter grade but to enrich their lives. For her, education is
less about “meeting the requirements” and more about “learning
something meaningful and new.”
Perhaps,
not surprisingly, Mrs. Samaan chose English as the subject she
would teach. She believes that the study of literature enables
students to discover new insights and express their own, informed
beliefs. Mrs. Samaan also believes that English classes assist
students in developing the essential communication skills of
reading, writing, critical thinking and grammatical usage.
Communication
skills are also a key element in Mrs. Samaan’s teaching methods.
From curriculum development to instruction delivery, she strives
to present information in a manner that is understandable, accessible,
supportive and motivational. She also strives to make learning
a team effort involving students, parents and teacher.
Mrs.
Samaan’s teaching approach is complimented by the technology
and pedagogy of FLVS. Making education accessible and engaging
is a goal common to both her and her school. In turn, students
participate by becoming independent thinkers, developing self-discipline,
and never settling for mediocrity.
Mrs. Samaan
is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Stetson University in DeLand,
Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English
Education.
