Christine Conidis

7 th Grade Language Arts
Florida Virtual School

There are few things more important than the ability to read, write, speak and listen. For Christine Conidis, there is nothing she would rather do than teach those important skills. She says that teaching is the only career she ever wanted, and English the only subject she ever considered teaching.

For Mrs. Conidis the key to successful teaching lies in communicating a genuine interest in her students’ success. Her enthusiasm for her subject and for helping students succeed creates the kind of energy that makes learning fun and rewarding. It is the kind of enthusiasm that creates positive change.

Positive change was much on display at Denn John Middle School when Mrs. Conidis developed and implemented a school-wide reading program that helped her school go from a C to an A in the State of Florida’s school grading system. Her program and its results also got the attention of Walt Disney when it awarded Mrs. Conidis a Disney Teacherrific Award in 2005.

In addition to serving as a reading coach at Denn John, Mrs. Conidis has also taught 7 th and 8 th grade English. As a certified trainer for Ruby Payne’s Framework for Understanding Poverty, Mrs. Conidis is also skilled at recognizing the particular needs of students from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Her belief in online learning was confirmed by her own experience when she earned her master’s degree as an online student.

Mrs. Conidis earned her M.Ed. degree in Reading from Grand Canyon University. Her B.A. in English Education was awarded by the University of Central Florida.
