Carolyn Durbin

MS Science 1
Florida Virtual School

There is no limit to the new things a person can discover when studying science.  And, in Carolyn Durbin’s science classes, there is no limit to the enjoyment students can have in discovering new things for themselves.

Fun and enjoyment, along with serious learning, are the characteristics of Mrs. Durbin’s 23-year teaching career.  Even before she entered the profession, she enjoyed helping others experience the satisfaction of learning.  Her decision to teach science also reflects her enthusiasm for adding new information to basic concepts.  It is a process of observing and analyzing the physical world that reveals new wonders. It is also a process that Mrs. Durbin makes available to every student.

Mrs. Durbin has taught Science, Gifted Science, Math, Algebra and Life Science at both the middle and high school levels. She was recognized as a national award-winning teacher in the Earth Watch Competition sponsored by the NASA Student Involvement Program.  Throughout her career, she has told students, “It is cool to solve problems, explore, and find out about things in our world.”  She also believes that it is cool to be a lifelong teacher and learner.

Technology is one of the attractions that drew Mrs. Durbin to Florida Virtual School.  She is pleased to work with students via the Internet throughout Florida on an individual basis.  When not teaching, she maintains a store on eBay selling books and clothing, reads avidly and enjoys nature walks.

Mrs. Durbin earned her Master of Arts degree in Secondary Science Education from the University of Florida.  Her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education was awarded by the University of West Florida.
