| Bob Getka is an expert
in programming who still likes to get his hands dirty.
His summers are spent away from Florida bailing hay
on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. Since 1990, he has spent
the rest of his year teaching Visual Basic and AP
Computer Science at Naples High School.
While working
on his Master’s degree, Mr. Getka experienced the
potential of online distance learning first-hand.
His success as on online student convinced him to
give online teaching a try. His choice of online
schools was FLVS.
Whether teaching
online or in the classroom, Mr. Getka makes a special
effort to know his students as individuals who benefit
from his individualized attention. It is this kind
of direct attention that enhances each student’s
opportunity for learning. It also provides Mr. Getka
with an important reward: the chance to see learning
occur one student at a time.
Mr. Getka’s
began his interest in computer programming back
in the days of punch cards. Over the years, the
technology has changed, but the enthusiasm Mr. Getka
shares with his student never will.
Mr. Getka
earned his Master’s Degree in Instructional Technologies
from the University of South Florida. He earned
his Bachelor’s Degree in Math and Computer Science
with a minor in Business Administration from Rockford
College.
