Betty Burrow says she enjoys being a facilitator of learning - the kind of learning that is essential to her students’ future professional success. In her courses, she explores the communication and technology skills that are essential for today’s careers. In her classroom, she also provides the kind of teamwork environment that students will encounter when they enter the workforce.
Prior to becoming a teacher, Ms. Burrow held several successful positions. Today, her experiences as an insurance administrative assistant, a nonprofit office manager, and as a university department lead secretary offer students real-world examples of the real-world skills they will need throughout their careers.
For the past 25 years, Ms. Burrow has distinguished herself as a teacher knowledgeable in the field of business systems technology, and as a classroom facilitator who expects and receives the best from her students. Her approach involves individualizing instruction to match the individual needs of each student. Her approach also involves matching her curriculum to the requirements of today’s work environment. Her talent for making instruction timely and relevant was recognized in 1998 when she received National Board Certification.
Ms. Burrow has taught Business and Computer Education courses in Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Florida. She has also served as a Career and Technical Education department chairperson, and as a curriculum integration coordinator. While in North Carolina, she worked on a team to write the business computer technology curriculum for all middle school students in the state.
Ms. Burrow earned her Master of Arts degree in Business Education and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
