April Schmidt says
she has “a passion for the written word.” It is the kind of
passion that runs in her family, beginning with her grandfather
who wrote two books and established newspapers through the state
of Georgia.
In addition to her family
background, Mrs. Schmidt’s teaching assets include extensive
travel experiences to places ranging from Great Britain, to
South Africa, to Peru. She also lays claim to a strong sense
of humor and a belief that all students can be successful.
In her English III class,
Mrs. Schmidt demonstrates how the written word can create a
vibrant and present reality from the history of the United States.
She also shows how the technology of online teaching presages
the kind of student-centered learning that will increasingly
characterize instruction in the future.
Among the most cherished
recognitions received by Mrs. Schmidt during her seven-year
teaching career is her selection by the Largo High School Senior
Class of 2002 as graduation speaker. She says that a positive
evaluation from students is the truest mark of teaching effectiveness.
Mrs. Schmidt earned her
B.A. in English with a minor in Communications from Georgia
Southern University and Augusta State University.
