Amy Brown

Math and Science Substitute
Florida Virtual School

For Amy Brown, one of the cornerstones of human progress is the wise use of technology; and the cornerstones of all technological development are math and science.  In addition to their usefulness, math and science can also be fun when taught by an experienced teacher who also believes that math, science, and teaching are fun.

Mrs. Brown began her teaching career in Polk County, Florida as a substitute teacher.  She recognized that successful teachers get to know their students as individuals who deserve the individual attention of their teachers.  It was the kind of understanding that led Mrs. Brown to earn her teaching certificate, and conduct classes of her own.

Prior to joining the Florida Virtual School faculty, Mrs. Brown taught at Lawton Chiles Middle Academy, a math, science, and technology magnet school in Lakeland, Florida.  Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Brown has emphasized building relationships with students through effective communication.  Her goal is to ensure that every student receives the kind of support that ensures his or her success.

Today, Mrs. Brown’s desire to make students’ needs the top priority characterizes her approach to online learning.  She is pleased that FLVS enables her to work one-on-one with individual students, assisting them at their individual pace.

Mrs. Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing from the University of South Florida.  Her first job after graduation was that of marketing manager for Global Citrus Resources in Lakeland, a supplier of agricultural and industrial equipment.  Her experience as a volunteer in her children’s school eventually led to her teaching career.
