Project Manager, Professional Learning Team Florida Virtual School
For those who are born and raised in rural Florida, the experience of growing up away from the big city leaves a lasting memory. Even when Amy Braswell moved to Orlando to study and work, rural Highland County remained vividly in her mind. Today as a project manager for Florida Virtual School, she has returned to her rural roots taking all of the positive things she learned while she was away.
The importance of education is also one of the values that Ms. Braswell has kept from her earliest years. Both of her parents are teachers, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of others became part of her own value system. She began her teaching career by opening Southwood Elementary School in Orange County. She also worked at Dommerich Elementary, also in Orange County.
In addition to becoming a skilled classroom teacher, Ms. Braswell acquired a talent with computers and educational technology. That talent led to a position as technology training specialist for the Florida Learning Alliance at the Heartland Educational Consortium. It also led to Ms. Braswell back to rural Florida.
At the Heartland Educational Consortium, Ms. Braswell trained teachers in six rural school counties in methods for integrating technology into their classrooms. Still with the Consortium, she then became a project director for online professional development focusing on arts integration. Her current position with FLVS allows Ms. Braswell to continue many of the same themes of her life. She continues to live in rural Florida. She continues to work in education. And she continues to make a difference in the lives of the people she touches.
Ms. Braswell earned her Master of Arts degree in Instructional Technology/Media: Educational Technology from the University of Central Florida. Her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education was awarded by Stetson University.
