Amie Ross says that
the high point of a teacher’s day occurs when a student says,
“Oh, now I get it!” Fortunately for Mrs. Ross and her computer
programming students, these moments of enlightenment occur all
the time. In Mrs. Ross’ computer programming class, every time
the logic is right and a problem is solved the sense of accomplishment
is high.
Mrs. Ross became a teacher
to share her knowledge, and to help her students understand
new concepts. Her approach is to guide and encourage every student
until each program runs properly. It is a process of learning
by doing that results in the right answer.
Before coming to FLVS,
Mrs. Ross taught Computer Education courses at St. Cloud Middle
School for seven years. She says she was attracted to FLVS because
of the content of its courses and the one-on-one approach of
its pedagogy. She believes that the FLVS online learning environment
provides every student enough time and enough teacher support
to achieve success.
Mrs. Ross began her teaching
career as an elementary school student who taught her fellow
students how the computers in the classroom worked. Today, her
greatest teaching accomplishments occur whenever a student finds
enjoyment in the challenge of problem-solving.
Mrs. Ross earned her
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University
of Central Florida. As a loyal alumnus, she is frequently seen
cheering at UCF football games with her husband and son.
