At Florida Virtual School, we’re all about choice. We know that each student is an individual and learns in a unique way – that’s why we offer a variety of instructional options designed to meet a wide range of student needs. Students

Part Time

Looking for a flexible education? Through FLVS Part Time, you control when and how you learn by taking online courses on your own schedule. Our course catalog offers more than 140 free middle and high school courses to public, private, and homeschool students.

Take a single course or several at once while attending a regular school – or manage your own schedule as a homeschool student. With year-round rolling enrollment and 24/7 course availability, you can customize your education to get ahead and graduate early or slow down when you need to. Our teachers are always there to provide individualized instruction and guidance when you need to spend more time on a specific area. At FLVS Part Time, you can start and finish a course whenever you choose, studying over the summer or during the school year.  If your family travels or you play sports, FLVS can help you combine your academics with other pursuits. Get back on track by retaking a course and boosting your GPA, fulfill your graduation requirements early, or sign-up for an elective that’s not offered at your school.

365 Day Calendar

Full Time

Florida Virtual School Full Time (FLVS FT) is a free public school. With a 180-day calendar that runs from August to June, FLVS FT joins the structure of the traditional school year with the flexibility of online learning. As a full-time public school for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, it is considered the primary school of record for students who enroll. 

High school students at FLVS FT can take courses, receive grades and transcripts, and graduate with a diploma. Open to Florida students in any district, the school includes a standard public school course load of six courses per semester. Students must meet all public school requirements for attendance and graduation, including standardized test participation (EOCs, FSAs, and FCAT).

Homeschool

Homeschool students enjoy the best of both worlds with FLVS. Study from home and plan your schedule with the support of certified instructors. As a school district accredited by AdvancED, our courses are approved by SACS and all core courses are approved by the NCAA. The FLVS Part Time program offers homeschool students 24/7 course access with year-round rolling enrollment. Take up to six courses at any one time, anytime during the year. Unlike students at a traditional school, homeschool students register with their local school district. This means that parents are responsible for maintaining their students’ records and following homeschool guidelines for their district. Many homeschool students provide a Homeschool Completion Affidavit, transcripts, and/or a portfolio to prospective colleges or universities upon completing their high school coursework. As a full-time Florida public school for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, it is considered the primary school of record for students who enroll and requires participation in state testing.

FLVS Elementary

This innovative elementary program designed by FLVS implements only the best practices for young children learning online. Available to registered home education students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, this free option consists of a flexible blended learning model following the traditional school year calendar. Subjects include Reading, Social Studies, Math, Science, Health/Fitness, Art, and Technology.

Our creative elementary-certified instructors teach students using interactive curriculum and specially-designed assignments. Your student will meet with other students and his or her teacher online twice a week for Class Time (live video lessons), then work independently with your support three days a week. By meeting with his or her class weekly, your child will develop close teacher and classmate relationships in a virtual environment. Learn more here.

Full Time

Part Time

FLVS Part Time also gives elementary-aged students the opportunity to take middle school courses on your family's schedule. FLVS Part Time offers year-round rolling enrollment and 24/7 course availability. Students can start and finish a course whenever they choose, whether it’s over the summer or during the school year. This option is best for students who are academically ready for more advanced subjects and requires that parents (and a school’s academic advisor if applicable) approve the enrollment. In order to be eligible to take a course, students need to meet one of these:

  • The student spent the prior year in a Florida public school and was reported for funding in the October and February FEFP surveys.
  • The student is a military dependent who moved to Florida within the last year.
  • The student was enrolled in district virtual instruction programs or Florida Virtual School’s full-time public school program the previous year.
  • The student has a sibling who is currently enrolled in a virtual instruction program and was also enrolled at the end of the previous year.
  • The student is eligible to enter kindergarten or first grade.
